skirt - a little nicer.

You know that skirt that I attempted to make a few weeks ago? It was supposed to be a cute ankle-length skirt with a belted/drawstring waist, but the pattern ended up being so small that I had to do some major make-shifting to get it to fit.

It ended up fitting, but it just looked like fabric hanging there. Nothing special--just fabric sewn together. I've been really disappointed about it since then.

Yesterday, I had an idea... and now it's a more interesting article of clothing.

And now I actually feel inclined to wear it!

Converse has probably been doing this for years, I don't know, but I just found out you could design your own sneakers on their website!

Follow these links to the two that I "designed" and then design your own!!

Wine 101

I just wanted to share this video with you....

Monty Python's John Cleese has an undying love for wine and his aim in this Food Network special was to make the experience of wine less intimidating for the novice wine-drinker.

Definitely an informative video for those with little knowledge of wine, but also interesting and entertaining for those of you who may know a little bit more. We loved it!!

On a similar note, Christopher & I stopped at a Wine "Super Store" in Delaware last week on our way home from Annapolis, MD. (Delaware's great, no sales tax!) We bought a few bottles and opened the first one a few nights ago...

The first one we tried was this bottle of Zinfandel produced by Oak Grove Reserve Wines. It was one of the cheaper bottles we bought (less than $10) but came recommended by one of the wine store workers as a "great bottle for a cheap price." If you spot it at your local wine store, pick up a bottle or two! It was delicious and perfect with our meaty pasta dinner. Mmmm!

telling the story of...

Our neighbor Caroline asked me to cat-sit her kitten this weekend. Having admired her cute little French-inspired apartment for some time, I took the opportunity to grab my camera and have a photo shoot while she was away....

Most charming apartment ever?

today's skirt failures and fashions

Today, I attempted to follow a sewing pattern for the first time. It was a complete and utter failure! In short, the skirt I was attempting to make was too small to even pull over my hips. I swear... I took measurements before starting and picked the appropriate size pattern to cut out.... Booo.

Since I liked the fabric so much, I had to make something work. So, I made a few cuts and added a zipper (the zipper was a new experiment too). I still have a new skirt, but it's not like the original pattern at all and I'm pretty disappointed about it.

Even though I'm bummed, I did have a little bit of fun trying to put together a few outfits with it.

Bumming around:

I find myself wishing we had cable, only because I love the show What Not to Wear and I also miss watching a little HGTV in my spare time. Such small, surface needs I have. But they really give me pleasure.
