a new direction

Christopher says that the blogs that have a central theme or idea normally get more traffic and interest. It's probably very true. Just a week or so ago, we sat down and watched the movie Julie & Julia, which--I admit--was part of the inspiration for my own blog. Julie, the main character in the movie, created a blog with a theme centered around her goal of cooking through the Julia Child cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

My own won't be so ambitious as to cook a fabulous meal every night of the year. What I really want to do is have a quaint little place online to post pictures of my own creations and talk about things that excite my creativity.

As anyone who reads this knows, playing music has been my creative outlet for most of my life. It's been my identity for many years, however, I've recently been exploring other creative avenues--areas in which I have only touched upon in the past. And so, my "theme" will be just that. My exploration of new creative avenues.

Only a few months ago, I decided that I wanted to learn to sew. Sooo (pun intended)... I bought a sewing machine with a gift certificate that we'd received for our wedding in July. My mom showed me how to sew a straight edge by sewing a few scarves and now I want to make everything myself! I refashioned an old shirt and made a purse without a pattern (somehow it turned out okay) and I have so many more ideas of things to try.

Here's a sneak peak at my newest project... (little birdies)

Besides sewing, I have also been very interested in photography for a number of years now. So, in an effort to learn as much as possible, I bought an old film camera from Ebay and just received it in the mail today (!). Although I plan on using it and teaching myself as much as possible, my goal is to save up enough money from now until summer to be able to register for a class or two in the fall.

Here's to new adventures!

Another Split Decision

As with most of my best creations, I decided to create this blog with almost no forethought. I have been perusing a few blogs as of late--mainly sewing and craft blogs--and just this evening had the thought that perhaps I should create my own.

For me, the most satisfying and lasting creations of mine happen when I get an idea in my head and, without pondering or thinking too much about it, I just do it.

The possibilities are endless... and it will hopefully give me a chance to update family and friends on current happenings in my new life (married and living in Philadelphia!)
